Major Michael William Wagner USMC (Ret.), 64, died at OHSU Hospital in Portland following a stroke. He leaves his sister, Garie Ann (Wagner) Nath; daughter, Heidi Wagner; son, Michael Wagner and his wife, Shamera (Carlin) Wagner; daughter, Katherine Wagner and her husband, Steve Wright; four grandchildren, Madison Wagner, Sawyer Reule, Dylan Wagner, and Savannah Reule; and many close friends.
Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in New Jersey, the son of Melvin and Theresa (Koval) Wagner, was currently a resident of West Linn, Oregon. After graduating from Cathedral High School (NJ) in 1971, he attended Villanova University, graduating in 1975. He subsequently attended the University of Southern California, earning a Master of Science in Systems Management in 1986.
He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in May 1975. During his twenty years of military service, he dutifully defended his country serving most notably in the Persian Gulf War. He was stationed at various military bases throughout his career and received numerous commendations and awards for meritorious service.
He retired from military service in May 1995 and graduated from Lewis and Clark School of Law with a Juris Doctorate in December 1995. He was admitted as an attorney to the Oregon Bar in 1996 and has been practicing law in Salem as a sole proprietor. Over the years, his expertise and reputation in the community led him to be a trusted legal advisor.
Michael had a passion for nature, enjoying hiking, fishing, hunting and scuba diving. He loved coffee, diet Pepsi, a good steak, and lots of cookies. He was a loving father, doting grandfather, and a faithful and loyal friend.
A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, in Willamette National Cemetery.
