Obituaries » Barbara J. Mersereau (Kennedy)
September 14, 1948 - March 31, 2017
Barbara Mersereau was born Barbara Kennedy to Everett and Dorothy Kennedy in Portland Oregon on September 14, 1948. They already had a son, Mike, and later Steve and Judy joined the family.
Barb grew up in Portland and attended David Douglas High School and Franklin High School where she graduated in 1966.
In her younger years, she was a master leg wrestler who would take on the biggest competitor, and win!
She worked many jobs before landing at PCC Structurals, Inc. where she held several different positions such as a weld mapper, rework analyzer and retired after 29 years as an Outside Process Coordinator.
After retiring, Barb and Tom were able to go on a trip of a lifetime to Ireland, France and London. Barb fell in love with the land and people of Ireland and was very impressed with their hospitality.
Barb and Tom are very active in the car club Associated Fords of the 50’s where Barb headed a lot of the charity functions and collecting donations for the car shows raffles. One of the major car shows is held in their hometown of Gladstone at High Rocks Restaurant & Lounge and has now been renamed The Barbara Mersereau Memorial Car Show in her honor.
Barb had a very big heart and liked to stay involved with donating time and energy to charities. She also loved to do crafts and would make very special gifts not only for her family but for neighbors and their children as well.
Some of Barbs passions was to keep her family communicating from generation to generation. She worked diligently to keep everyone communicating through the year and have monthly lunches and/or get togethers with the immediate family as well as friends. She also worked to have annual events with all family. Some of her favorite quotes were, “Our Family is a Circle of Strength and Love”, “Memories Filled with Laughter and Joy”, and “Our Home was built with Love and Dreams”.
Barb was often described as “feisty” or “fireball” and sometimes “ornery”. But mostly she was described as a beautiful person to be around who always had a great big smile and encouraged others when they were feeling low. She was very accepting of others and never judgmental. Barb was a lot of fun to be around and was always uplifting. Her strength was undeniable and incomparable, she was our Rock!
In 2011, Barb was diagnosed with Kidney Failure and wanted to know all there was about the disease and what her options were. She started with Hemodialysis and went on to do Peritoneal Dialysis which after training, she was able to do at home and was very diligent to do her exchanges without incidence. She felt strongly that people learn and understand what the options are for themselves and to do their own research to live as best they can. She was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in January 2017.
Barb is survived by her loving husband Tom of 34 years, as well as their children Sherrie; Necole with her husband Brandon and their children Macenzi and Cassandra; Shannon with her husband Chris and their children Kiera and Niya; brother Steve with his wife Lonnie and their children Jesse and Mariah and children; sister Judy with her husband Ben and their son Tristan; brother-in-law Jerry Mersereau with his wife Charlene and their children; brother-in-law Jack Biggs with his wife Lorie and their children; niece Tamara Amador, nephews Mike Kennedy with his wife Tiffany and their son; Derek Osborne with his wife Brittney and their children; Cory Kennedy; Kurtis Kennedy with his wife Frostiana and their children; Adam Kennedy; wonderful cousins Linda Luna-Mecham, Pennie Crawford, Luanne Long, Rob & Bonny Loop, Ron Loop and several more generations of amazing cousins; and friends Bobbi Opperman, Rosie McGrady and Hazel Fraijo who are close enough to be called family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at High Rocks Restaurant & Lounge on Saturday, April 29th from 12:00-6:00 pm.
